Study for City Traffic in Milan

1972 Competition entry ADI (Associazione Disegno Industriale)

With Gae Aulenti

This was a competition entry for the contest “Milano invece di Milano”, a search to find solutions to alleviate city traffic problems in Milan. The study to solve inner-city congestion evolved over many years and included a wide range of projects, such as bike tracks and moving walkways (1972); a bus designed for FIAT, enabling passengers to store their bicycles within a designated bus area (1976); a folding steel bicycle with small wheels for Batavus (1976); a bicycle umbrella to protect riders from bad weather (1979); a folding scooter (1979); and most recently, the lightweight aluminum bicycle Zoombike, which easily folds and unfolds and fits into the luggage compartment of a car (2000).
